Sussex County Croquet Club v Medway (away) For the third year running we were drawn against Medway in the First Round. Medway were again able to field a much stronger team than us, with three 1 handicap players and a 4 against our range of 3.5 to 7. In the morning, we lost the doubles and one of the singles, with the other match pegged down as unfinished. This meant that we had to win all four singles in the afternoon to stay in the tie. Medway obviously didn't mean to let us do this, as we were fed and watered handsomely over lunch! Despite (or because of) this, our two Johns (Taylor and Gosney) managed to beat their lower handicap opponents, but Medway's other players proved too strong for Gene Mears and Brian Kitching in the remaining two matches.
