The Club Calendar has moved!

The club calendar of events and lawn availability has been fully integrated into the club website and can be reached by clicking the link View club calendar of events and lawns. This can be found in the new box in the righthand sidebar if visible, or by scrolling down the mobile/tablet display. The current month will be displayed . For different month select the month you wish to view and click Show Calendar.   This option will be below the calendar. If no calendar is yet available for the month you want you will see an on-screen message to that effect.

The feature is maintained by Francis Ainley and he can be contacted with information or corrections on francis@sussexcountycroquetclub.org.uk or on his private email address.

Club Secretary Liz advises that Members please note the following points:

1.The on-line calendar is now the definitive calendar, i.e. it has precedence over any paper notices that may exist.
2. It is members' responsibility to check the calendar as needed, as updates will be made as and when required
3. Members must inform us of any changes needed to the calendar and to please provide information in the form published, i.e. date, time, event, any special comments and estimate of lawns required.This refers to lawns required for  Academy, League and Interclub matches for SECF, CA and Friendlies as well as Club Social events and Corporates. Information can be mailed to Francis as indicated above.

It is not the intention for it to be used as a booking system for internal matches or games. Continue as usual with these by adding them to the paper calendar. The online version will give you more idea of lawn availability to aid your  planning.

The SCCC  team of Deborah Marcus, Chris Rolph, Morgan Case and David Gillett beat Reigate 4-3 in their Longman Cup match on Sunday 2nd June.

This means we will play Roehampton in the next round in an away match on Sunday 14th July.

Sussex County win Canterbury One-Ball tournament

Sunday 2nd June saw the Sussex County one ball team consisting of Chris Coull, Gabrielle Higgins and Tudor Jenkins.

Arriving to a laid-on breakfast of crossed buns and tea we quickly dispatched Canterbury A and B teams without a single loss. After a sumptuous and boozy lunch, the team continued with wins of 2 from 3 against each of Ramsgate and Tunbridge Wells, to finish an unassailable 10 from 12. This score won Sussex the one-ball wine cooler as well six crystal wine glasses for the tournament’s highest break – 8 hoops from the skipper, Chris Coull. He also took the jammy-dodger prize for running 4back instead of penult with a hoop and roquet, only continue his break to penult oblivious to his good fortune. The prize? A packet of Jammy Dodgems!

Sussex B & C Level Challenges May 2019

GC B Level Challenge

20 Competitors took part in the SCCC B level Tournament on 4^th May. This was the second tournament in the National B Level Series. Although bitterly cold the lawns were playing true and fast for the time of the year.

After the block stage, the top 8 players entered into a knockout with the remainder playing in a consolation event.

In an exciting final Robin Coates ( Phillis Court ) beat Sue Nicholas (Cheam) 7-6

In the play off for third & fourth Andrew Larpent (Dawlish Dyke) beat John Marrner

The consolation event was won by Mike Bilton (Nottingham)

Internal competitions

All the internal competitions are now on the notice board. They are also on the website

Please check the play by dates and try and adhere to them. If you are unable to play, time extensions should be agreed with Roger Sutton.

Remember when playing internal matches play in whites so that other members know you are playing a match.

Withdrawal from competitions

Any withdrawal from any competition must be notified to me before removing you name from the board.

Withdrawal from block format matches after you have played some of your matches can prove to be very unfair to remaining players. Please therefore complete your commitments even if you are no longer in the running for a place. If you withdraw from one competition without good reason you may be asked to withdraw from all other competitions.

Drawn Pairs

I am now taking entries for the Drawn Pairs which are now on Tuesday 11th June.. For new members this is a tournament where high handicap players are drawn with lower handicap players. It is a handicap tournament. The draw for partners takes place on the day. Please enter by either writing you name on the sheet on the notice board or by e mailing  roger@sussexcountycroquetclub.org.uk

Tea available after play

We all know somebody who has been afflicted by dementia. This wonderful charity provides information, advice, support and funds research. The house colour of the charity is blue and all players in heats and the final are encouraged to wear something | blue |.

 The C A back us. Quiller Barratt, the President, is keen to place an emphasis on raising funds for our chosen charity. There is now a Just Giving page (www.justgiving.com/fundraising/cob2019). It can be used for all other donations, such as people who want to donate extra or players who would like to enter your heat but cannot.
We have to be careful to preserve the ability of our chosen charities to claim Gift Aid on our donations. So please be clear to those entering your heat that we are seeking a donation and suggest at least £5 per head. I know that many heat organisers supplement this by raffles and other fund-raising and the average per head last year, when the Downs-Syndrome Association benefited by over £5300 (including Gift Aid), was about £9.
