Twelve teams participated in the Alternate Stroke Doubles Winter Tournament on 7 November. Roughly 2/3 of the players were from SCCC, but we also welcomed teams made up of players from Preston, Crawley, Purley Bury, Caterham, Parsons Green, and Lodsworth. The tournament was run as a swiss with 4 rounds of 14-point games (75 minutes). Team handicaps were calculated as per the L4 AC Handicap Doubles Variation. Full bisques were used (team handicap / 3). Wins were worth 1 point. Draws 0.4. Peg-outs and peels received bonuses of 0.25 respectively. Given the weather conditions in previous days, the lawns were in very good condition. Many thanks go to the grounds team and Robin in particular who marked the lawns in the morning of the tournament. Deborah Marcus prepared a welcome hot soup as well as cakes. The weather was Novembr’ish although the final round saw some blue sky and sunshine coming through (see picture!).

1st place: Robin Wootton and Janet Hoptroff with 4/4 wins and 1 peg out.
2nd place: Luc Berthouze and Deborah Marcus with 3/4 wins and a peel.
3rd place: John Taylor and Fred Bell with 3/4 wins.

Peeling prize: Hugh Brown and Richard Carline with 2 peels.
