B Level Challenges
David Marcus wins the SCCC AC B level 5/6 May
This AC B level event was contested over 2 days in beautiful sunny weather at Southwick.
The tournament was played as a 5 round Swiss. After 4 rounds it looked as if David Boyd (Rother Valley) would be the runaway winner, being the only competitor with 4 wins.
The fifth round proved otherwise with 4 competitors ending up with 4 wins each – Liz Farrow (SCCC), David Boyd (Rother Valley), Alex Jardine (Tunbridge Wells) & Davis Marcus (SCCC).
The result had to be determined by net points difference and the final result was a win for David Marcus with Alex Jardine in second place.
MIKE BILTON WINS THE SCCC GC B LEVEL
Mike Bilton won the SCCC GC B Level tournament on 5th May.
The tournament was played with 2 blocks of 6 with the top 2 in each block plaing a final to determine the top 4 places.
Mike had one scare when he was beaten by Chris Rolph 7 – 5 . This meant it was all to play for going into the last round of the blocks. Mike finished in impressive style beating last year’s winner Gavin Taylor (Merton) in the final with Chris Rolph (SCCC) placed third and David King fourth.
After the bad weather we have endured this year it was a very pleasant change to be able to play the whole tournament without a cloud in the sky.

If you are unsure as to the lawn availability on days when the weather is bad, please do check the lawns page on the website. We cannot guarantee decisions being emailed out at the beginning of the day, but Clive does the website when he is available to. We know it is frustrating if you have come and cant play because a notice says lawns unplayable, but sometimes decisions are taken late due to the unpredictability of the weather. Hopefully spring will soon be here and all will be well.
The lawns are doing well, thanks to the care of Ben and his team and we are looking forward to a good season again !

A match between Clive’s team and Roger’s team
Members will be allocated to a team upon arrival and can opt to play GC, one ball or AC.
Once the initial game is finished and the result recorded, members are encouraged to make up further friendly games.
A light lunch of soup and bread will be available
The decision has just been taken to close the lawns while the very cold and frosty period is with us, in order to minimise damage. We have been very fortunate to have had so many days play this winter. So, as from Saturday this week (24th Feb) the lawns will be closed until further notice. We anticipate about a week, but will keep you informed and will open them again as soon as we can.
The quiz and the tournament due on 2nd March will be postponed.
The AGM will go ahead as planned on Saturday 3rd March.
New dates
Roger has split the tournament he is running on the 2nd March so that there is less pressure on lawn availability.
He has advised the higher handicaps involved of this. Lower handicaps still come on the 2nd!
If you are a handicap 7 or above and would also like to enter, please see the new date below

We will be having one of our famous skittle evenings on Thursday February 8th, starting at 6:30pm.
It will cost £12.00 to include a fish and chip supper.
Numbers will be limited to 32, so it will be on a first come, first served basis.
Please email Fran on Fran if you wish to come or sign up on the list in the clubhouse.
Fran would be very grateful for any offers of help to set up on the evening.
It is time to be thinking about the competitions you might like to enter this year.
Please read the information carefully as it has been changed quite a bit from previous years.
We have separated out our internal competitions from the SECF and CA competitions . There is a sheet explaining more about the SECF and CA competitions and some guidance about player handicaps for each one- though this is not set in stone! We have also added the Captains for each team and they will be able to give you more info, as will Richard Brooks (GC Club captain) and Daphne Gaitley (AC Club captain).
We are hoping this will help you in your thinking and planning.
There are 4 documents regarding competitions.
A box will be in place at the club next Tuesday, but the forms detail other ways of giving in your entry forms.
We are hoping for many entries in both club and leagues this year!
For those of you wondering about the One ball heat at SCCC. This will be played on Sunday 29th April and be run by Deborah Marcus- so keep the date free if you are interested. Winner goes forward to the final at Surbiton.
